Information theory

This five-day summer course provides talented young postgraduate students and postdoctoral scholars with an interest in information theory an opportunity to learn about the latest advances in information theory via long-format tutorials taught by leading experts, in format that facilitates formal and informal interactions between the participants and experts.

  • 8 June — 12 June, 2015

What you'll study

The field of information theory has become the de facto intellectual framework for design and analysis of schemes pertaining to information compression, storage, communication and processing. It has helped lay the groundwork for modern information systems such as the internet, wireless and cellular, communication systems, data storage systems and signal processing tools. It has also shown up in other diverse and surprising contexts, such as analysis of biological systems, in control theory, and in quantum information theory.

Topics to be covered include second-order asymptotics in information theory, lattice coding and the art of measurement.

The course is limited to a maximum of 60 participants and will be conducted in English. Registration requires submission of a one-page paper abstract and a poster. Submissions must be received by 27 April 2015.
