Neutron Scattering Science and Technology

This joint laboratory will continue the previous Joint CAS-Croucher Laboratory on Neutron Scattering Science and Technology, which is designed to provide a platform for collaboration on neutron scattering between the Hong Kong scientific community and Chinese Academy of Sciences. The previous project has been highly successful, as evidenced from high-profile publications, students trained and new projects initiated. On August 28, 2017, China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) produced its first neutron beam. The timing is perfect as the user community in Hong Kong is on the cusp of maturing. Under the new project, the team will, • Conduct original experiments to demonstrate scientific merits of CSNS. • Collaborate on the design and construction of a new total scattering instrument • Prepare the ground work to establish a State Key Lab on neutron scattering in Hong Kong These research tasks are critical steps to fulfill our vision for the joint laboratory, i.e., to establish Hong Kong as an international center of excellence in neutron scattering and to transform CSNS from blueprint to the most productive scientific facility of its kind.
